Day 13 - Branson, Missouri

Sitting hidden away in the gently rolling Ozark Mountains is the tourist town of Branson Missouri. It is well known for it manys live shows performed in the towns theatres by well known (domestically anyhow!) American musical acts who spend a season or more here so they don't have to tour the country. People usually come for a 3 - 6 days and see as many shows as possible. There are many "tribute shows" in town and the only shows by actual performers that we knew, were Andy Williams and The Osmonds. Time did not permit us to indulge in any of them however!

As autumn approaches the area is a popular destination for fall 'leaf- peepers' - tourists who travel up to view the wonderful colours of autumn in this densely wooded area.

Paul met a fellow "railfan" who was visiing the area from New Jersey. He had escaped the terrible weather there to do some train chasing and photography. He was able to share lots of  interesting information. He was in Branson that day specifically to try to cover some "rare mileage" by travelling on the Branson Scenic Railroad train. It can head out of town in either a Southerly or Northerly direction. Going North is by far the rarer option, and this is what Bruce really wanted. Paul evidently brought him some luck as at the last minute the conductor confirmed a journey north! Bruce grabbed a ticket and boarded the train with a broad smile. Paul meanwhile savoured the opportunity to photograph the train with its rare F7 locomotive leading.

We are now headed all the wayacross to Tulsa, Oaklahoma. We took a circuitous route in order to make a brief call into Springdale Arkansas, home to the Arkansas and Missouri Railroad.........the mecca for all ALCo locomotive enthusiasts!...............ask Paul about that one!
